5G UL Tx Switching Technical Training

Qualcomm branded products are products of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries. Qualcomm Academy is a program of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.

In this course, we look at the motivation, benefits, and implications of the UL Tx switching features defined in 3GPP Release 16 through Release 18. UL Tx switching can improve 5G Uplink performance in terms of uplink throughput, spectral efficiency, and uplink coverage. We explore how the UL Tx switching feature boosts uplink performance with respect to the UE’s capabilities. Finally, we evaluate the factors and recommendations for deploying this feature.

Course Outline:

  • Motivations and use cases for UL Tx switching
  • Release 16 switching options (switchedUL and dualUL) and triggers
  • Comparison of Uplink performance between UL Tx switching, UL CA, and SUL
  • Release 16 UL Tx switching period, location, and cost
  • Release 17 UL Tx switching enhancements
  • Intra-band 3CC CA for Release 17 UL Tx switching
  • Release 17 switching cases (2 Tx to 2 Tx)
  • Determination of 1-port/2-port UL transmissions for Release 17 UL Tx switching
  • Release 18 UL Tx switching cases and switching periods
  • Release 18 UL Tx switching interworking between SUL and UL CA
  • Release 18 support of single switching
  • UE capability for UL Tx switching for Release 16, 17, and 18
  • Adaptive switching configuration and scheduling between UL Tx switch, UL CA, and Non-CA
  • Deployment recommendations for UL Tx switching
