Through this program, you will complete three end‑to‑end projects – Keyword Detection, Person Recognition, and Gesture Recognition – each following a developer workflow from data collection to live inference. This program emphasizes practical execution, real-world use cases, and build-along learning to help you gain applicable AI skills.

To complete this program, you will use Edge Impulse to build and train AI models, and you will use the Arduino® UNO™ Q Board to deploy all models. You will need an Edge Impulse account to participate in this program, which you can create for free here. If you wish to deploy the models you create, you may purchase the UNO Q here (both the 2GB and 4GB versions work for this program).

Program Structure: Practical Projects with Real-World AI Applications

In this program, you will complete three hands-on projects, all of which are led in a build-along training format. Each project is conducted in an online and self-paced manner.

For each project, you will use Edge Impulse to build and train AI models, and you will use the UNO Q to deploy all models. You will need an Edge Impulse account to participate in this program, which you can create for free here. If you wish to deploy the models you create, you may purchase the UNO Q here (both the 2GB and 4GB versions work for this program).

Please see below for the projects you will complete:

  • Project #1 – Wake Word Detection: Learn the end-to-end process of building a wake word detection model, starting with collecting and labelling audio data for both the wake word and background noise. You will conduct feature extraction using MFCCs, model training and validation in Edge Impulse, and performance tuning based on accuracy. Then, you will test on unseen data and deploy the validated model to an UNO Q device for real-time inference.
  • Project #2 – Person Recognition: Create a person recognition model using image data collected from a webcam or phone. In this project, you will label images with bounding boxes, train a MobileNet-based model, and improve performance through validation and fine-tuning. You will then conduct local testing and deployment to an UNO Q device for real-time image-based inference.
  • Project #3 – Gesture Recognition: In this project, you will build a gesture recognition system using motion data from the Modulino Movement sensor with UNO Q. You will record and label gesture data, conduct feature extraction with spectral analysis, and train a classification model in Edge Impulse. After optimizing accuracy, you will deploy the model to the device and integrate it into an app to recognize gestures in real time.
