Voice over New Radio (or “VoNR”) is a technology that enables users to make and receive voice calls over 5G networks. It leverages the capabilities of 5G to deliver clearer and more natural-sounding voice calls; it allows for the simultaneous use of data-intensive services; and it enables new possibilities for voice-based applications.
The following are five key benefits that VoNR brings to the wireless landscape:
- Enhanced Voice Quality: VoNR offers improved voice quality compared to traditional voice calls. It utilizes advanced audio codecs, such as enhanced voice services (EVS) of super-wide band (SWB) and EVS of full band (FB), which can result in clearer and more natural-sounding voice calls.
- Lower Latency: 5G networks have significantly lower latency compared to previous generations. VoNR takes advantage of this low latency, resulting in near real-time voice communication. This is particularly beneficial for applications that require instant voice communication, such as emergency services and online gaming.
- Enhanced Coverage and Connectivity: VoNR leverages the capabilities of 5G to help ensure reliable voice communication even in areas with weak signal strength or high network congestion.
- Seamless Integration with Other 5G Services: VoNR is designed to seamlessly integrate with other 5G services and applications. This means that voice calls can be made while simultaneously using data-intensive services – such as video streaming or online gaming – usually without any significant impact on call quality or network performance.
- Support for New Features and Services: VoNR can enable the implementation of new features and services that were not possible with previous voice technologies. For example, it can allow for real-time language translation, which can open up new possibilities for voice-based applications.
Upskill Your Team with VoNR Training
At Qualcomm Academy, we offer in-depth VoNR technical training for companies looking to enhance their employees’ 5G skills. Our courses are all online, self-paced, and taught by experienced engineers from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. We can also deliver live training to companies with that have a group of at least 15 employees.
Please check out our VoNR training courses below:
- VoNR Technical Training: This half-day course introduces voice services on 5G Standalone Networks; discusses network architecture, call flows, and mobility scenarios; and compares with alternative voice options such as EPS FB.
- VoNR Log Analysis Workshop: This hands-on workshop features Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message details, log details of VoNR procedures, and call scenarios.
Please note that the two courses above require a non-disclosure agreement and additional company-to-company agreement, so we can only offer these courses at the company level. Also, if you are interested in a wider range of 5G training, we encourage you to look into our Corporate 5G Training Subscription, which consists of all 50+ Qualcomm Academy 5G courses, including the two VoNR courses discussed above!
